Good News

Surrey County Council has made a major commitment to protect the Green Belt, following a Liberal Democrat motion debated by the full council on 15th June.

The county council agreed to enhance their links with the Boroughs and Districts in Surrey on planning matters and to use new rules from the Coalition Government to resist demands to build on Green Belt land.

"Protecting the Green Belt has always been at the heart of Liberal Democrat policy", said county councillor Ian Beardsmore, who proposed the motion. "Surrey has been especially badly hit by the previous Labour government's excessive housing targets and Liberal Democrats all over the county have been in the forefront of the fight to protect green open spaces and back gardens in their area."
